LET THE BIBLE SPEAK ABOUT THE CHURCH
Mike Gurganus
Adapted from a sermon by Dave Miller
INTRODUCTION
- Ephesians 1:22,23, "And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all."
- Ephesians 4:4, "There is one body…"
- Church=body. Only one body, then there is only one church?
- Psalm 127:1, "Unless the Lord builds the house they labor in vain who build it…"
- Matthew 15:9, "And in vain they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men"
- Matthew. 15:13, "Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted."
CONCLUSION
On a beautiful morning, just before dawn, a car was driving down the interstate. The driver suddenly saw in his rear-view mirror the blue light of a state trooper. He pulled his car over onto the shoulder and the trooper got out and all that he said was, "follow me." So the trooper pulled around him and went on down the interstate and in a little while he pulled off onto a side road and then off onto a gravel road and finally to a dirt road. In a little while that road ended and there was a lake, and the deer were grazing around the lake, the ducks were swimming on the lake, the dew and the frost were misting off the lake. And the only explanation the trooper gave was, "this was so beautiful I just had to show it to someone.
- Hear the gospel. Acts 8:5
- Believe the gospel (Acts 8:12). This belief is "unto righteousness" (Romans 10:10)
- Repent of sins (Acts 2:38). This repentance is "unto life" (Acts 11:18).
- Confess Christ (Acts 8:37). This confession is "unto salvation" (Acts 8:37).
- Be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38). This baptism places one into Christ (Galatians 3:27) where salvation is (Acts 4:12).
That’s the church of Jesus Christ.
