LET THE BIBLE SPEAK ABOUT SALVATION
By Mike Gurganus

INTRODUCTION:

  1. What must I do to be saved? The most important question that one will ever ask.

  2. How you answer this question will decide whether you spend eternity in heaven or hell.

  3. What must I do to be saved? God has set forth some requirements that we must meet in order to be saved.

  4. Sin separates man from God (Romans 3:23) and therefore we do not have the right to dictate to God how we will be saved (Jeremiah 10:23)

  5. God though His word has plainly and simply answered this question. It is unfortunate and sad that man has come along and muddied up God’s clear plan of salvation.

  6. Man today has introduced a variety of ways that a person can be saved; however God has only one way and when we follow this one way we are added to His Son’s church (Acts 2:47)

  7. My charge from God (I Peter 4:11). Your charge from God (Acts 17:11).

  8. As we study from the Bible God’s answer to the question, What must I do to be saved? I would like to ask everyone to write Yes or No next to the number on your paper.

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

  1. I MUST HEAR THE WORD OF GOD.

  1. Romans 10:17, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God."

  2. Romans 1:16, "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek."

  3. Have you heard the word of God? The very word that has the power to save you. Yes or No?

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

  1. I MUST BELIEVE THAT JESUS CHRIST IS GOD’S SON.
  1. God has set forth to us the importance of belief.

    1. Belief is essential if we desire to please God, "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).

    2. Belief is important if we desire to be saved, ""He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned" (Mark 16:16).

    3. Belief leads to obedience, "But why do you call Me 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do the things which I say?" (Luke 6:46).

  1. God has set forth specifically what we are to believe, ""Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."" (John 8:24).

  2. God has set forth that believing that Jesus Christ is God’s Son brings us a step closer to being righteous, "For with the heart one believes unto righteousness…" (Romans 10:10).

  3. Do you believe that Jesus Christ is God’s Son? Yes or No?

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

  1. I MUST REPENT OF MY SINS.

  1. God has set forth the importance of repentance.

    1. II Corinthians 7:10, "For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death."

    2. Acts 3:19, ""Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,"

    3. Luke 13:3, ""I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."

  1. God has set forth that repenting of our sins brings us a step closer to eternal life, "When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, "Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life." (Acts 11:18).

  2. Have you repented of your sins? Yes or No?

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

  1. I MUST CONFESS WITH MY MOUTH THAT JESUS CHRIST IS GOD’S SON.

  1. God has set forth the importance of confessing with our mouths that Jesus Christ is God’s Son.

    1. Matthew 10:32,33, "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven."

    2. John 6:68,69, "But Simon Peter answered Him, Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

    3. I Timothy 6:12, "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses."

  1. God has set forth the confessing with our mouths that Jesus Christ is God’s Son brings us a step closer to salvation, "..and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation" (Romans 10:10).

  2. Have you confessed with your mouth that Jesus Christ is God’s Son? Yes or No?

What Must I Do To Be Saved?

  1. I MUST BE BAPTIZED.

  1. God has set forth the importance of being baptized.

    1. Baptism washes away ours sins, "And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord" (Acts 22:16).

    2. Baptism saves us, ""He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned" (Mark 16:16).

    3. Baptism places us into Christ, "For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:27).
  1. God has set forth that baptism is an immersion in water.

    1. Acts 8:36-39, "Now as they went down the road, they came to some water. And the eunuch said, "See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized? Then Philip said, If you believe with all your heart, you may. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing."

    2. Colossians 2:12, "buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead."

  1. Have you been baptized? Have you been immersed for the remission of your sins? Yes or No?
