Thought of the Week Archives
I have seen people moved to tears over the death of a
family pet. I have seen folks weep because of an unexpected turn
in the plot of a movie. I have even seen people cry over the outcome
of a football game, but I have rarely seen anyone weep over a lost soul.
-- Keith Kasarjian

Parents need to ask themselves this question, "Are
my children growing in grace and preparing themselves for an eternity of glory
or are they learning to live without God, be a menace to society, and die
without hope?
-- Perry Cotham

The man who has a real message to deliver and a real desire to deliver it, will always find a way of giving it to man.—William Barclay
Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name." But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not. Jeremiah 20:9

The more of heaven in our lives, the less of earth we covet.—Selected

When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced, live your life in such a manner that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.—Selected

Unlike March, that rushes in like a lion and goes out lamb, God is not seasonal! Like the sun, his presence performance is day after day, shining consistently by vita of his nature and identity. Glowing with untiring strength in a fullness that is always the same. Clouds may hide it, but never remove it! This is the Lord. And thus are the godly.—Stanley Sayers.

THE BIBLE CLASS AND YOU
by Tim Nichols
A golden opportunity
Occurs here twice a week,
And those who will not hear its knock
Are destined to be weak.
The Book of God is opened wide,
And placed before our eyes,
That we might place it in our hearts
And by it be made wise.
So come and have a part with us,
And please do not be late.
Have your lesson in your hand
And then participate.
The passive student cannot learn
If no effort's made
To have the lesson in one's mind,
With groundwork firmly laid.
So read the Scriptures, fill the blanks,
And give the Lord a chance
To teach you truth more thoroughly
Than one gains by just a glance.

Liberty is the right to discipline ourselves in order not to be disciplined by others. Clemenceau
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?; unless indeed you are disqualified. II Corinthians 13:5

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. II Corinthians 5:21

If we are going to do religion, then let’s do it right.—David Powell
But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. John 4:23,24

We may believe intellectually that there is a God; we may affirm the truth of his existence, the facts of his attributes, the reality of his works in nature. But only those who have wholly committed their wills to his know him in his saving power. –Guy N. Woods
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

Grace provided the plan by which sinners are saved, or made righteous, and grace tells us how to come into possession of that salvation. If people would quit arraying the commands of God against the grace of God, they would have a clearer vision of the scheme of redemption. God’s grace is in every command he gives. The sinner was lost; God prepared a way by which he could get out of that lost state. That was grace. But that was not enough. He needed to know how to find that way, and how to walk in it as it is to provide the way. But when the way is fully prepared, and full directions given as to how to find the way, and how to walk in it, the next move is man’s.—R.L Whiteside

To be a Christian a person must exhaust himself, his talents, his resources, his time, his soul and his body in the work of the Lord.—Paul Butler
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. I Corinthians 15:58

To worship is to quicken the conscience by the holiness of God, to feed the mind with the truth of God, to purge the imagination by the beauty of God, to open the heart to the love of God, to devote the will to the purpose of God. All this is gathered up in that emotion which most cleanses us from selfishness because it is the most selfless of all emotions—adoration.—William Temple
How lovely is Your tabernacle, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, even faints For the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Blessed are those who dwell in Your house…For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. Psalms 81:1-2, 4,10

It is ironic when one stops to think about it. In an age when facilities for rapid communication of the Gospel are available to the church as never before, we are actually accomplishing less in winning the world for God than before the invention of the horseless carriage.—Robert Coleman
"If indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister." Colossians 1:23

The church, in the thought of Jesus, is not a body of pious people who have withdrawn from the world to save their own souls; it is a conquering army of redeemed men and women who go out under his leadership to overthrow sin and establish righteousness.—James Dobbins
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:13-16

Going to worship regularly is like making a path in the forest- the more often you use it, the less obstruction you will find in the way. What a tremendous blessing - a clear path for life! Glenn Hitchcock
"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching." Hebrews 10:23-25

The trouble with trouble is that it usually starts out as a whole lot of fun.—Selected
"But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death." James 1:14,15
