WHICH WAY ARE YOU HEADED?
PSALMS 1

INTRODUCTION:

  1. Periodically it always good to evaluate our lives to see if we are headed in the right direction. When we do this we might see that there is room for improvement in our lives.
  1. Spiritually speaking it is vital that we determine whether or not we our heading in the right direction.

 

I.  THE WAY OF THE OBEDIENT. VERSES 1-3, 6

A. The Psalmist begins with the character and condition of the godly man.

1. Walks not in the counsel of the ungodly. Verse 1 A man’s walk is the course of his life. Genesis 5:22

2. Does not stand in the way of sinners. Verse 1 I Cor. 15:33

3. Does not sit in the seat of the scornful. Verse 1

4. Delights in God’s word. Verse 2 Psalms 40:8; 119:16,47,70,77,174.

5. Meditates upon God’s word. Verse 2 We must lay up God’s Word in our minds and then demonstrate His Word in our lives. Proverbs 4:23; II Timothy 3:15-17

6. Is likened to a tree planted by the water. Verse 3 Psalm 92:12-14; Luke 8:15; Col. 2:6,7

7. Is rewarded. Verse 6 He has the attention and is accepted by God.

 

II.  THE WAY OF THE DISOBEDIENT. VERSES 4-6

A.  The Psalmist concludes with the character and condition of the ungodly man.

1. Is likened unto chaff which the wind drives away. Verse 4

2. Shall not stand in the judgment or in the congregation of the righteous. Verse 5 He has no foundation and no fellowship.

3. Is rewarded v.6-- He will perish. Rom. 6:23

 

CONCLUSION:

  1. Spiritually are you heading in the right direction. Psalm 1 is a most encouraging psalm if one is going to do right, but it should be a most disturbing psalm if one is going to do wrong.
